Huddersfield Star Wheelers hill climb series 2024

In the UK, each year the time-trialling season draws to a close with the National hill climb on the last Sunday in October. In homage to this, my cycling club do a local hill climb every Wednesday evening in September. It's not my ideal discipline, but this year I took part in the series so I visualised the results to give something useful back to the club.

By number

Visualising each event using the staggered start times gives a meaningful representation of how the event played out. Riders start at one minute intervals – so if a bar finishes before any above it then the rider must've caught and overtaken the previous rider.

  • Most riders caught: 3 (Matthew Brown, Jackson Bridge)

By finisher

Visualising each event by finishing position gives a clear picture of the results, and the range of finishing times across the riders.

  • Biggest winning margin: 6.9s (Jackson Bridge, week 3)
  • Smallest winning margin: 0.9s (Old Mount Road, week 1)
